A more balanced approach could guarantee each household a basic amount of water at a nominal fee (or free for those in genuine need) while imposing charges on excessive use. In this way, the fundamental right to water can be upheld without encouraging misuse or straining public finances.

In conclusion, although water is essential and should be accessible to all, providing it entirely free of charge to every home is impractical. It is more sensible to ensure water remains affordable and universally available, so that basic needs are met without undermining the sustainable management of this precious resource.
